Htc kaiser scores 4 awards

HTC TyTN II has been recognized as the best PDA and the best handheld by "PDA Essentials" - a popular British (paper based) magazine which covers PDA devices and smartphones and is owned by Imagine Publishing Ltd.
HTC cleans up at the PDA Essentials Awards 2007

Device manufacturer scoops four awards out of eleven

HTC Corp., the world’s leading provider of Microsoft Windows Mobile smart devices, walked away with four out of eleven awards at the PDA Essentials Awards 2007 on Thursday evening.

Held at the home of BAFTA in London, the awards recognise the leading companies and their technological developments throughout the previous year. The winners are decided by a panel of experts with two categories decided by the readers of PDA Essentials. The four awards own by HTC were:

  • Manufacturer of the Year
  • Best PDA (HTC TyTN II)
  • Best Handheld device (HTC TyTN II)
  • Reader’s Award for Best Handheld (HTC TyTN II)
Speaking after the event, Florian Seiche, VP of HTC Europe commented, “These awards are testament to the outstanding work performed by our R&D and design teams to produce category leading devices which are popular with an increasing group of consumer and business users. The TyTN II has been received extremely well by both the press and users while the Manufacturer of the Year award is evidence of the success of the product range overall.”

The HTC TyTN II was launched in August 2007 and recently received 9/10 in a PDA Essentials group test of PDA devices.

iPhone versus TyTN II

Found good Kaiser vs iPhone comparison: iPhone vs. TyTN II Kaiser, which came out on top?
Conclusion: iPhone is very stylish and simple in use device, but the main problem is software for it. Apple will open SDK only in February 2008, so no 3rd party programs until this date.
HTC TyTN II is nice choice for advanced users. Tons of programs available right now. The main disadvantage is Windows :). Not all users like it.

Here is authors conclusion:

In closing… Yes, I admit it. I went from iPhone to HTC TyTN II Kaiser to iPhone. A complete circle. I assumed that being able to install whatever applications I wanted on my mobile device was the flexibility I wanted. I was wrong. I could have loaded the TyTN II Kaiser with every imaginable Windows Mobile application I could find on Handango, but there would still be something missing. Simplicity. Real iPhone applications are just around the corner, 4 months to be exact. Whether or not the SDK will open the iPhone up as a true competitor against existing Smartphones is uncertain. However, I am 99% certain that the HTC TyTN II Kaiser (at&t Tilt) is my first and last Windows Mobile device. Not because of HTC, but because Window Mobile [in general] is too clunky and bloated.

Battle of the giants - Kaiser vs Nokia E90, Mio A702, HTC TyTN & P4350, HTC Touch, E-TEN glofiish M700

Very detailed comparison of similar functionality smartphones. Design & ergonimics, communication functions, memory, display, user interface, preinstalled software, setting, phonebook, messaging, PIM, multimedia, camera, performance, battery life. Everything explained with photos and tables.

I haven't seen any battery test except this one.
Multimedia, video(AVI)/Multimedia, audio (MP3)
HTC TyTN II 4:42 / 16:58
Nokia E90 4:58 / 10:02
HTC TyTN (Hermes) 6:51 / 26:56
HTC P4350 (Herald) 5:16 / 19:37
E-TEN glofiish M700 6:39 / 23:00

Really good review and really good conclusion.

TyTN might seem an ideal product, the very first flagship of the platform that comes with a vast range of functions based off Microsoft technologies. It's a HTC phone that assumes neither a compromise nor a concession. A closer look contributes to the overall positive image of the phone, which is nothing like what you get with Windows Mobile. But the E90 by Bokia is a strong challenge to this product, offering a better realisation of many features based on the Symbian platform, the keypad being its stronget side. If the Windows platform and the touchscreen aren't critical to you, it's better to pick the E-series Finnish handset. On the other hand, TyTN II makes a good choice for the rich and picky audiences. It's actually one of the best Windows-based PDA phones.

One more good review of TyTN II

Review by Rob Tillotson, from the-gadgeteer.com. That's really good review, I found it very informative. In this review are described such aspects as packaging, design, gps, camera and software. They had some problems with camera on their unit, but as you can see on the photos I've posted before on this blog camera is normal.

Orange released TyTN II

Orange have released the HTC TyTN II, initilly to their business customers £300 + VAT. The TyTN II is the followup to arguably the best Windows Mobile device ever, the TyTN (funnily enough!) which was also known as the SPV M3100 on Orange.

HTC TyTN II compared with ETEN M700 and its predecessor model HTC TyTN

...Two other similar devices with the HTC TyTN II in the market are the HTC TyTN and ETEN M700. The ETEN Glofiish M700 is a device manufactured by ETEN. The M700 has a sliding QWERTY keyboard and has also a built-in GPS receiver like the HTC TyTN II. The ETEN M700 though runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and comes with 128 MB of ROM and 64 MB RAM while the HTC TyTN II is running Windows Mobile 6.0 and has 256 MB ROM and 64 MB RAM. In terms of size and weight, the HTC TyTN II is 5 mm smaller in length but 10g more in weight.Other major differences between the three devices (HTC TyTN II, ETEM M700, HTC TyTN) is the fact that the screen of HTC TyTN II can tilt up enabling you to see the device from a different view just like you do with a laptop computer. This is particularly useful when you want to position the phone on desk to check your emails watch some video or type some text.Another difference between HTC TyTN and HTC TyTN II is the position of the SIM Card Slot. On HTC TyTN II the sim card slot is convinently positioned behind the screen and can be accessed very easily by just sliding the keyboard to open...

Photos taken with HTC TyTN II

Here you can see the real quality of its 3Megapixel camera. Of course it is not 5Mp Nokia N95, but anyway that's not bad for a smartphone. In my opinion if you want to take normal photos you need a normal camera, a mobile phone is suitable only for occasional moments when you don't have a real camera with you. A camera in a phone is only an additional option.
